Color Guard Director

photo Joseph Gabrintina has been the Color Guard Director at Ronald Reagan High School for the past 6 years. During this time, the Reagan Guard has had incredible success. In terms of membership, the Reagan Guard has averaged a 115% enrollment growth since his first year as director, placing the team as one of the largest in the nation. The Reagan Guard has also seen competitive success in the marching band season (fall semester) garnering multiple Outstanding Color Guard awards at the Texas Marching Classic and contributing to the band’s multiple Outstanding Visual & Outstanding General Effect caption awards at multiple Bands of America Regionals & Super Regionals. During the spring semester, the Reagan Guard continues to excel with 3 teams competing in the TCGC (Texas Color Guard Circuit) and WGI (Winter Guard International) circuits. Each team has earned their own successes in their respective classifications. The 3 teams allow each guard member to be appropriately challenged and showcased based on their grade level/skill set.

Prior to his position at Reagan, Joseph hails from San Diego, CA where he graduated from Westview High School. He has instructed many southern and northern California color guard ensembles. High Schools including Mount Carmel, Poway, Los Altos, and Oak Grove. Each earning their own successes in their respective circuits. He has also worked with the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets, Pacific Crest Drum & Bugle Corps, and multiple color guards and winter guards around the nation.

He has performed extensively throughout the color guard and winter guard activity. His performance history includes marching with the Santa Clara Vanguard from Santa Clara, CA for 5 consecutive years from 2009 to 2013. Having received a Golden Foot award for Visual Excellence his age out year. He has marched multiple Independent World class winter guards including Fantasia, Corona, and Santa Clara Vanguard Winter Guard where he served as the captain. Most recently he has professionally performed with the 2001 Tony award winning Broadway musical BLAST! Joining the cast as a member of the "Visual Ensemble" on their 2014 Japan tour where he performed in all 47 prefectures of Japan (alongside Mr. Rainey!).

Mr. Gabrintina has recently graduated from Texas State University with his Bachelors in Business Administration in Marketing and hopes to gain a position as strategist at an advertising agency. He has a cat named Mochi which the 2016 Reagan Guard adopted for his birthday (please no more pets as presents). He loves being at Reagan and finds the growth of his students from their first year to their last, to be the most rewarding part of his position.
