The Quid Nunc Saxophone Quartet from Ronald Reagan High School came away with the top prize in the Texas Public Radio “Sounds like KPAC” Contest. The contest featured local area high school students in several categories including Solo Musician, Ensemble Musical, Written Word, and Visual Art.
The Quid Nunc Saxophone Quartet competed against string quartets from O’Connor High School, and from a local Private studio. The competition was held at McCallister Auditorium at the San Pedro campus of San Antonio Colleges.
Musical selections from the Quid Nunc Quartet included Ciudades: Sarajevo-Bosnia and Herzegovina by Guillermo Lago, and the first movement of Recitation Book by David Maslanka. The Quid Nunc Quartet walked away with the first place honors, which included a $1,000 cash prize, a $300 gift card to Alamo Music Center, and “Free Whataburger for a Year”.
