On Jan. 9, ten members of the Reagan High School Band earned placement in the Texas All-State band. This was the most out of any school attending the Area E Contest, the most in the history of the Reagan Band, and the most in the history of any school in North East ISD. The area audition was held at the University of Texas’ Butler School of Music, and students competed against schools as far east as Houston in the final round of the Texas Music Educator Association’s (TMEA) All-State Competition. This is the highest individual honor a high school musician can achieve in the state.

Approximately 64,000 students from 28 regions compete annually for this distinction. Individual musicians perform three separate pieces of instrumental literature for a panel of professional judges, who then rank each competitor based on their performance. The competitive rounds include auditions at the district, region, and area levels whereby the strongest performers earn the All-State distinction.
These students will attend a four-day music clinic and convention in February where they will get to work with and perform for some of the best collegiate and professional musicians in the world. Reagan Directors Dan Morrison, Greg White, Mason Daffinee, Ray Ulibarri, Lopez Middle School directors Kim Garza and Jessica Powell, and Bush Middle School directors Gabe Rosas and Erin Sharkey are proud to have ten All-State musicians this year.
